Ochiairou

Breakfast is served in the same room as the evening meal, with large windows welcoming the morning light. The meal, emphasizing fresh local vegetables and smoothies, begins healthily. The superb miso paste for dipping vegetables and the basic yet satisfying Japanese breakfast cater to familiar tastes, with the rare inclusion of a soufflé egg dish and seedless watermelon, highlighting meticulous preparation.

This Ryokan stands as a beacon of historic elegance, offering guests the liberty to immerse themselves in a variety of experiences throughout their stay. With complimentary beverages included in the rate, the pricing leans towards the premium side. This establishment is ideally suited for enthusiasts eager to indulge in a rich selection of alcohol while soaking in the inn’s refined ambiance, as well as for sauna aficionados.

Regarding the culinary offerings, I must candidly note that the meals did not quite justify their cost, falling short of a chef’s masterpiece. The service was acceptable, striking a balance between non-intrusive and attentive, ensuring a stay free from stress or annoyance.

Ochiairou is highly recommended for those who appreciate the beauty and heritage of Japanese architecture and seek a tranquil retreat. However, for seasoned travelers like us, who have extensively explored Japan’s riches, it was challenging to find that unique touch that elevates an experience from ordinary to extraordinary.
